Abstract

Abstract: The main concern of the present study was to find the limitations of Google translation in compare with human translation in socio- journalistic texts from English to Persian. For that reason, 5 socio-journalistic texts were chosen randomly each of which was given to both Google translate software and human translator. Then, the obtained translations were compared according to the Roger T. Bell`s theory (1991) in order to find some serious limitations of Google translate software. Based on the Bell`s theory translation texts were analyzed according to syntactic, semantic, pragmatic knowledge; as a result, Google translation had more difficulties in constructing the sentences according to the Persian language syntax, understanding and rendering the secondary meaning of some words and lack of coherence. \nKeywords: Google translate software, IT jargon, cultural software localization, structural ambiguities
