Abstract
In this Paper, Fraction Order (FO) PI controller is used to find the controller gain for Automatic Generation Control (AGC) using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to represent an Interconnected Power System (IPS) to achieve the growth of electric power for the sustainable development of most countries. The main mission of AGC is to return primary frequency tuning capability, bring back the frequency to its nominal set point and reduce power fluctuation due to unscheduled tie-line power flows among neighboring control areas. The suggested controller is designed using real statistical data of the IPS for minimum and maximum loading conditions of the IPS during Winter and Summer of 2019-2020. The strength of the proposed controller is illustrated by applying the suggested controller and study the effect of outage of the largest generation unit in this Simplified Egyptian Power System (SEPS) on the grid frequency. The gains of fractional order FO-PI controller parameters such as proportional, integral, order of integrator (λ) are optimized using different Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm and compared with another conventional supplementary Proportional Integral (PI) based on PSO also.\nThe results display that the suggested FO-PI controller-based on PSO provides best dynamic response for a step load change. MATLAB-Simulink software is used for gaining the results.
