The use of statins is well established in the literature for its hypolipidemic action, having beneficial effects in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In addition to the use of dyslipidemia, a literature has pointed to the occurrence of bone anabolic effects where mesenchymal cells differentiate in osteoblasts through BMP-2 secretion. The objective of this systematic review was to answer a clinical question formulated in PICO format: Simvastatin influences bone remodeling? A Pubmed / MEDLINE search was conducted for articles published up to May 2019, which considered various factors such as dosage, area, recorder, area and effects of use. Of the 20 articles that fit the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 18 (90%) had positive results in bone remodeling, 50% of articles published in the last 5 years and 100% of articles on animals.\nMuch of the evidence about the role of topical simvastatin in bone regeneration comes from animal studies (especially rats) focusing on extraoral bone defects. Still, preliminary results are encouraging and it is suggested that use with a suitable vehicle may aid in the process of bone repair and osteoinduction.
Purpose: The aim of the present study was to compare the quality of preparation of oval-shaped canals by using SAF, XP-endo Shaper and hand instruments. Materials and methods: Sixty freshly extracted lower incisors were selected and randomly assigned into three equal groups. All samples were preflared with hand K-files, filled with a radiopaque contrast medium and radiographed. Second radiographs were taken after root canal instrumentation. The removed radiopaque area from the canals was analyzed by digital subtraction of preoperative and postoperative radiographs and its percentage was quantified. Results: In the 0-5 mm root segment, XP-endo Shaper and SAF performed significantly better than hand files (p=0.001, p=0.05, respectively) but the difference between them was insignificant (p=0.067). In the 6-14 mm segment XP-endo Shaper and SAF expressed significantly better quality of preparation compared to hand files (p<0.001, p<0.05, respectively), with the XP-endo Shaper being superior to SAF (p=0.020). Better debriding ability of all tested systems was registered in the apical segment. Conclusions: None of the tested instruments succeeded in complete debridement of the oval-shaped canals. Significantly higher quality of preparation was demonstrated by SAF and XP-endo Shaper in comparison to hand files with the XP-endo Shaper being superior in its shaping ability.
A 65-year-old female, who had been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC) at 61 years of age, achieved remission of the UC after pharmacotherapy. She presented with an approximate 13-year history of an anterior neck mass for which she had sought a medical consultation in 2012. The neck mass was elastic and had a diameter of 16 mm. Imaging and aspiration cytology results indicated that the mass was composed of thyroid tissue and connected to the left lobe and/or isthmus of the thyroid. Additionally, imaging results indicated that multiple nodules were present in the bilateral lobes; the condition was diagnosed as benign adenomatous goiter. Although she had not undergone surgery or radiation for the bilateral lobes, the mass was diagnosed as an enlarged pyramidal lobe of the thyroid without accompanying enlargement of the bilateral lobes. The anterior neck mass has not grown, and the patient has maintained normal thyroid function for the past 7 years.
Nowadays, most universities are adopting mixed models of training called blended-learning. The institutions make the educational offer and the teaching-learning process more flexible in order to face the need to attend a greater number of students with the same amount of resources, without diminishing the quality of the service. The main objective of this study is to identify the influence of technology and to analyze the factors that affect learning in the blended-learning modality in order to detect areas of opportunity that are reflected in students\' learning. The methodology consisted of an analysis with a descriptive approach based on a questionnaire applied to students which combined questions with multiple answers and questions with a Likert scale. In the results obtained, it was found that the majority has Internet access at home to review informative documents, but above all they choose this educational option for the convenience of class schedules. One of the main factors that affect student learning is how to organize study time because they are working at the time.
